Stevie Wright, ex-Easybeats singer, dies aged 68

Australian rock legend Stevie Wright has died at the age of 68.

The ex-Easybeats frontman, who is widely regarding as Australia’s first international pop star, died at 6 pm at Moruya Hospital on the NSW South Coast after falling ill on Saturday.

The rock icon was famed for songs like Friday On My Mind, Evie and She’s So Fine and enjoyed enormous success in Australia and internationally in the 1960s and 1970s.

However, Stevie battled both alcohol and heroin addiction for the next 20 years.
