3-2-1 Contact

1 9 8 0 – 1 9 8 8 (USA)
108 x 30 minute episodes

This educational science programme from PBS Children’s Television Workshop became something of an after-school ritual for many American kids in the 1980s.

The show was based on the original concept of The Curiosity Show, an Australian science-based children’s educational TV show that had been running since 1972, and would devote an entire week to a particular subject as college students Trini (Ginny Ortiz), Marc (Leon W. Grant) and Lisa (Liz Moses) talked about science and actually made it fun.

A short fictional segment called The Bloodhound Gang aired at the end of 3-2-1 Contact.

The segment featured a group of young detectives – including Vikki Allen (Nan-Lyn Nelson) and Ricardo Lopez (Marcelino Sánchez) two younger detectives, alternating between Zach Morgan (Kelly Pease) and Cuff (Glenn Scarpelli) – solving cases using scientific methods.

Starting with the second season in 1983, Zach and Cuff were replaced by a new junior detective, Skip (Seth Greenspan).

Their adult private detective mentor, Mr James Bloodhound, was always absent from the office.

The Bloodhound Gang segments were discontinued in 1986 due to the death of Marcelino Sánchez.
