Musical version of Alice in Wonderland – the story of a girl who tumbles down a rabbit hole, finds herself in a magical world with a host of eccentric characters and promptly embarks on a series of surreal adventures.
This all-star version of the Lewis Carroll classic has syrupy music and lyrics by John Barry and Don Black, and Fiona Fullerton plays Alice.
Fullerton had already made a couple of movies and was promoted as a new Julie Andrews, but she has a hard time not being upstaged by her co-stars.
Michael Hordern’s Mock Turtle, Ralph Richardson’s Caterpillar and Spike Milligan’s Gryphon are the most colourful creations on offer. Peter Sellers, who plays the March Hare, caused a minor stir by peevishly slagging the film off before it opened.
