When its predecessor, Austin Powers, International Man of Mystery, was released in 1997 nobody took much notice initially, but the often puerile comedy went on to become a cult hit.
In the original film, Mike Myers played Austin Powers, a playboy spy who had been placed in cryogenic suspension in the 1960s and was defrosted in the 90s to do battle with Dr Evil (also Myers).
This time, Dr Evil uses a device he calls a “Time Machine” to travel back to 1969 to steal Powers’ mojo – the sexual aura which is the secret weapon of every spy.
So Austin zaps back to the 60s and takes on Dr Evil and his cloned sidekick, Mini-Me.
With the help of sexpot super-agent Felicity Shagwell (Heather Graham) – “Shagwell by name, shag very well by reputation” – he tries to recover his mojo.
Meanwhile, Dr Evil hatches a plan to put a gigantic cannon on the moon, thus turning it into a device called either “The Death Star” or “Alan Parson’s Project” . . . depending on which name is available.
Kristen Johnston of TV’s 3rd Rock From The Sun plays Russian spy Ivana Humpalot, and Rob Lowe fills in for Robert Wagner as the young Number Two.
