Bucktown (1975)

Duke Johnson (Fred Williamson) returns to the small southern town of Buchanan (“Bucktown”) – a sleazy town that attracts low rent tourists because of its gambling and prostitution – to bury his murdered brother.

A few locals talk Duke into staying on and re-opening his brother’s bar – which is when he encounters a bunch of corrupt racist white cops – commanded by Chief Patterson (Art Lund) – who are running the place and squeeze African-American business owners for protection money.

So Duke calls up some badass black gangster acquaintances from the big city – led by his longtime pal Roy (Thalmus Rasulala) – to come and help him take them out.

Having eliminated the Cracker Police, the black gangsters decide they will stick around and control the town themselves, and prove to be not so different from the cops – except greedier and crueller. Now Duke has to become a one-man army and rid the town of Roy and his thugs.

Pam Grier co-stars as Aretha, Duke’s new girlfriend in town.

As with almost all blaxploitation films, Bucktown has nudity, fists, knives, guns and a lot of rough language. It sure ain’t a family film.
