Set in the future (in the year 2017) with the Earth reduced to a barren wasteland, this science-fiction thriller starred Melanie Griffith and David Andrews.
Lovesick businessman Sam Treadwell (Andrews) sets off into the desert with expert scavenger E Johnson (Griffith) to acquire some hi-tech spare parts for his damaged “Cherry 2000” female robotic playmate, but the pair have to enter the notoriously dangerous area that was formerly Las Vegas – now known as Zone 7.
There they encounter evil overlord Lester (Tim Thomerson) and his deranged tribe.
Although there are some nice effects, they can’t hide the B-movie performances or the utterly ludicrous plot.
Filmed in 1985, the feature stumped the studio heads and they shelved it with the intention to be released in 1986, then – finally – in 1987.
