Lenny Henry starred as jobless Liverpudlian Ritchie Lee who teams up with American John Carloff (John Shea) – a deserter from the US army – to start a mobile soul disco after converting an old ice cream van.
Along the way, they run into trouble in the form of old school cockney gangsters, Greaves (George Baker) and The Chiropodist (Peter Vaughan).
The 100-minute film was produced and screened by the BBC on their Screen Two anthology series. The prohibitive cost of obtaining release rights for such a smorgasbord of soul classics from Motown means the film has never been commercially released on DVD or video.
