Conan The Destroyer (1984)

Arnold Schwarzenegger returned to the role that provided his breakthrough as the muscle-bound mythical hero in Conan The Barbarian (1982) . . . but the kitsch magic of the John Milius original was missing this time around.

Conan goes off on a quest for a magical sacred stone, guarded by a wizard, at the behest of wicked Queen Taramis of Shadizar (Sarah Douglas).

With our cut-rate Hercules on the trek are virginal Princess Jehnna (Olivia d’Abo), comic sidekick Malak the Thief (Tracey Walter), hired assassin Bombaata (Wilt Chamberlain) and Zula (Grace Jones) – an extremely tall female warrior whose hairstyle is Hyborean punk!

Conan and his team retrieve the jewel from the castle of Toth-Amon (Pat Roach) and Conan fights and defeats the wizard in a hall of mirrors.

Later, at an ancient temple, Jehnna and Conan retrieve the horn of Dagoth, and Bombaata springs a trap, abducting Jehnna and taking her back to Queen Taramis who has evil plans to sacrifice her own niece in order to awaken Dagoth.

Conan rides back to Shadizar to save Jehnna and to stop the monstrous Dagoth, who has now awakened to wreak havoc on the world of man.

The requisite number of ugly villains, beautiful temptresses and doe-eyed heroines were all present and correct, Schwarzenegger didn’t have to do too much acting, and director Richard Fleischer kept the often violent action flowing smoothly.
