Made back-to-back with Dimension 5, this anti-Communist sci-fi effort stars a tired-looking Michael Rennie (who died four years later at the age of 61) as Garth A7, a Cyborg from the oppressed future (2087 obvs) who travels back in time to 1966 in a machine that looks like a giant spark plug.
He has returned to confront Professor Sigmund Marx (Eduard Franz) – the scientist who invented Cyborgs in the first place – hoping to prevent him from going ahead with his work, and in the process saving the future from becoming a world where free thought is banned.
Garth is pursued by two killer “tracer” cyborgs from the future (Dale Van Sickel and Troy Melton) who look like a couple of refugees from the Blue Oyster bar in the Police Academy films.
Scientists Dr Sharon Mason (Karen Steele) and Dr Carl Zellar (Warren Stevens) come to his aid.
Yep, it’s essentially the same premise as The Terminator (1984) but made almost 20 years earlier.
Cyborg 2087 has a made-for-TV look, the cheapest special effects and a monotonous repetitive score – but if you enjoy bad sci-fi movies from the 60s this could provide 86 minutes of entertaining viewing.
