Fashion model Carol Halston (Mercy Haystead) learns that her sister Moira withdrew £7,000 from the bank the day before she died from a supposed overdose of sleeping pills.
The money is now missing and Carol goes to see her sister’s stock broker, Paul Heindrick (Albert Lieven), to discover what happened to it. Heindrick, who is with his stepson Derek Maitland (Kenneth Cope), claims not to know about the missing money.
She sets in motion an investigation which leads to blackmail and murder. Among those involved are Heindrick’s secretary, Jean Anscombe (Barbara Shelley) and Ross Williams (John Meillon) – one of his former employees who has served a prison sentence.
Heindrick is finally unmasked as the murderer and attempts to kill both his secretary and Carol before the timely arrival of the police (not the band!).
Based on an Edgar Wallace novel, the film was later sold to American television and aired there as part of The Edgar Wallace Mystery Theatre.
