A coffin washed ashore on a Californian beach contains the corpse of Khorda (Robert Quarry), a vampiric guru.
Resurrected, the undead fiend takes over as the head of a hippie commune in the canyons above Los Angeles – and starts to vampirise the members one by one. In no time, he has become a God-like figure to them, and they begin to follow his commands.
The characters opposing the vampire are unimpressive: One is a greasy biker whose mama falls under the count’s influence; another is a meek local shopkeeper played by John Fiedler (better known as the emasculated therapy patient Mr Peterson on The Bob Newhart Show) and then there’s Pico (Bill Ewing), a Native American commune member who, for no discernible reason, practices kung fu.
