Engineer Bart Thompson (Ward Ramsey) and a group of construction workers are building a new harbour on a Caribbean island when they unearth a caveman, a Brontosaurus and a Tyrannosaurus Rex.
The friendly caveman (Gregg Martell) befriends young orphan Julio (Alan Roberts), and the two find a way to see off both the dinosaurs and a bunch of comical villains.
Any film that ends with the baddies being dispatched by custard pies in the face can’t be that serious, but this has some nice colour photography and interesting (if variable) special effects.
The climax sees a memorable duel between the Tyrannosaurus and Bart driving a steam shovel.
Though it’s a long way from Jurassic Park (1993), this colourful sci-fi yarn from Irvin S. Yeaworth – the director of The Blob (1958) and 4-D Man (1959) – is fun for the kiddies.
Dinosaur footage from this film was used on several episodes of the 1960s comedy TV series It’s About Time.
