Peter Richardson’s film is more of a student prank than a subversive satire in the tradition of Buñuel’s The Exterminating Angel or Lindsay Anderson’s if…
Waiter Alex loses his job at posh London restaurant ‘Bastards’ (where you can order baby panda and swan’s liver pate) and plots with a small band of revolutionaries to put its customers on the menu.
The male role of Alex is played by cabaret artist and recent transsexual Lanah Pellay who sums up perfectly people completely on the edge of society (half man/half woman, half black/half white).
Stuntman/former boxer Nosher Powell delivers a memorable performance as a Cockney Home Secretary who – tired of watching his country be terrorised by undesirables – kicks arse and bashes baddies, and generally behaves like one of the Kray twins yet still finds time to flirt with the Queen.
Meanwhile, suave Commander Fortune (Ronald Allen) of British Intelligence (who is also a Soviet double agent) is plotting Nosher’s downfall with help from his sidekick Spider (Lemmy from Motörhead).
The movie’s main fascination, though, lies in its extraordinary array of cameos – from Paul McCartney and Bill Wyman to Jools Holland, Koo Stark and French and Saunders.
