The question of whether or not three inmates made it successfully to the mainland after an ingenious breakout from Alcatraz prison (in San Francisco Bay) in June 1962 still holds a firm grip on the public imagination.
This is the *allegedly* true story of those three inmates. Although no one had managed to escape from “The Rock” before (it was considered one of the most secure federal prisons in the US), bank robber Frank Morris (Clint Eastwood) masterminded this elaborately detailed and, as far as anyone knows, ultimately successful, escape.
The warden in Escape From Alcatraz (Patrick McGoohan from The Prisoner and Danger Man) is as tough as you’d imagine, but not bright enough to realise prisoners are running around between the walls like rats.
