Feminist and the Fuzz, The (1971)

This wacky comedy – made for ABC Movie of The Week – revolved around a beautiful feminist doctor (Barbara Eden) and a brash male chauvinist cop (David Hartman) who are forced by circumstances (and a housing shortage) to share an apartment in San Francisco.

Despite their opposing viewpoints, they come to an agreement about their unusual living arrangement – until Jane and feminist Debby Inglefinger (Jo Anne Worley) start holding meetings of WAM (Women Against Men) in the apartment.

This prevents Jerry from entertaining his Playboy bunny girlfriend, Kitty Murdock (real-life 1995 Playboy centrefold and future Charlie’s Angels star Farrah Fawcett).

His anger subsides, however, when he realises he is falling in love with Jane. But before he can reveal his feelings, he is called to quell a riot – an invasion of the Playboy Club led by Jane, Debby and the other ladies of WAM (with Barbara Eden wearing the teeniest of bikinis).

The not-unexpected complications build to a very funny climactic scene which also involves Harry Morgan as Jane’s bewildered father, and Julie Newmar (very funny as a prostitute about to become an X-rated movie star).

Penny Marshall and Sheila James have small roles as “Liberation Ladies.”
