In this briskly efficient B-movie from the golden era of British science fiction, brash US Navy test pilot Dan Prescott (Bill Edwards), hungry for fame, rockets himself beyond Earth’s atmosphere, only to become encrusted with cosmic dust and return a blood-drinking monster.
The film has more than a passing resemblance to Hammer‘s The Quatermass Experiment(1955) with a dash of Dracula(1958) thrown in for good exploitative measure, and director Robert Day goes for both pity and scares by engendering sympathy for the one-eyed malformation while delivering uneasy shocks.
Lacklustre acting from Marshall Thompson doesn’t help his cause, but Marla Landi screaming every time the slime-encrusted alien appears does add an unintentional streak of light entertainment.
