Set five years after the first film (1980), the action takes place in the vicinity of the infamous Camp Crystal Lake, where the foolhardy counsellors from the neighbouring holiday camps come visiting with all manner of shenanigans in mind.
Before the foolhardy teenagers can get up to anything, a grotesque psychotic madman begins bumping them off in increasingly grisly fashion.
This first sequel to the surprise horror hit is a virtual retread of the original, except that it introduces maniac icon Jason Voorhees (here played by Warrington Gillette) into the mayhem mix, eager to butcher another camp full of sex-starved counsellors.
There are no real surprises, just plenty of methodical murders, with graphic impaling being the favourite.
Steve Miner directs by the numbers because, in this mean-spirited slasher, it’s the splatter that matters, not the dead-end cast.
