Up The Creek proved such a success that this sequel was rushed into production by Hammer and debuted in the same year. Val Guest remained aboard for this second voyage as did most of the supporting cast (Lionel Jeffries, David Lodge etc).
The only one who refused to sign on was Peter Sellers, who was busy working on The Mouse That Roared. Stepping into his shoes was Frankie Howerd, who proved to be as an effective foil to top-billed David Tomlinson as Sellers had been.
Tomlinson is once again the confuddled captain Lt. Humphrey Fairweather who doesn’t realise that his ship’s voyage to North Africa is transporting a somewhat unorthodox cargo – nine paying passengers his corrupt crew are keeping hidden from him.
When Fairweather learns the truth, the plot turns to the crew’s attempts to blackmail their commanding officer into taking no action about the illicit human cargo.
The sequel is actually faster paced than the original, with more comic incidents.
