This full-length colour animated film was produced for Warner Bros by UPA, the American cartoon makers who for years were renowned for their stylish one-reelers, among them Mr Magoo.
Judy Garland speaks and sings for Mewsette, an innocent country cat seeking fame and fortune in Paris in the 1890s. Hermione Gingold gives her fruity voice to the plump, faded cat who employs Mewsette at her beauty salon.
Mewsette’s two tom cat friends (Robert Goulet and Red Buttons) have their work cut out trying to keep her out of the catnapping paws of suave, smooth villain Meowrice (Paul Frees), who is intent on deporting her to marry a rich old cat in America.
