This happy-go-lucky Technicolor comedy follows Clive Smedley (Bernard Hunter), a bashful young fellow who has to sample London’s nightlife and run a farm profitably for three months in order to benefit from the will of his eccentric uncle who was kicked to death by a Can-Can dancer.
If Clive fails – he is told by slick solicitor Mr Finch (Joe Baker) – the dead uncle’s tough bailiff Hodgson (Danny Green) will inherit the farm.
To kick things off, Finch introduces Clive to the owner of a striptease joint and his pretty daughter Jill (a young, pre-Charles Bronson Jill Ireland, pictured).
Clive enjoys the nightlife and soon also makes a decent job of the farm – all the more impressive as he is terrified of animals.
Continuity is a trifle loose, but Bernard Hunter is natural and resourceful as the hero, and the supporting cast is energetic.
Eager contributions from Folie Bergere-style dancers (led by Mimi Pearce) also take up much of the slack. Cuddly Dudley, a popular singer of the day, has a cameo appearance.
