Wealthy hot rod addict Chip Gardner (Harold Lloyd Jr.) is killed accidentally while trying to rape a blonde girl, and Silver Morgan (Mamie Van Doren) becomes the prime suspect.
Silver has an alibi, but because she’s had previous brushes with the law, she’s sent to Girls Town, a home for recalcitrant and wayward young women, which is run by nuns.
Defiant of the sympathy of the Mother Superior (Maggie Hayes), contemptuous of regulations and antagonistic to her fellow inmates, rebellious Silver causes trouble at the school, while the infatuation of her friend Serafina (Gigi Perreau) with young singer Jimmy Parlow (17-year-old Paul Anka in his motion picture debut), brings her to the brink of self-destruction.
Meanwhile, Chip’s father hires private detective Dick Culdane (Van Doren’s real-life estranged husband Ray Anthony) to learn the truth, and Chip’s friend Fred (Mel Tormé) makes trouble for Silver’s 15-year-old sister, Mary Lee (Elinor Donahue from Father Knows Best), at a drag race.
The free-for-all battle in the story’s climax – in which the inmates of Girls Town use judo and ju-jitsu to rescue Silver and her sister from the clutches of hoodlums – is certainly unique. Even the Mother Superior enters the fray.
