Dr David Sheppard (Richard Egan) is a scientist and security expert from the Office of Scientific Investigation (OSI) in Washington, DC who is called in to investigate some mysterious deaths at a secret underground military facility run by Dr Van Ness (Herbert Marshall) in the desert, where a space station is being constructed.
Sheppard discovers that the deaths are due to deliberate sabotage of the facility’s master computer, NOVAC (Nuclear Operative Variable Automatic Computer), which controls and coordinates all the equipment in the facility.
He eventually determines that a powerful radio transmitter and receiver were secretly built into NOVAC during its construction in Switzerland.
An unmanned enemy plane – with a fibreglass body that does not register on radar – has been flying overhead, beaming ultra-high-frequency radio signals into the facility to control NOVAC.
NOVAC, in turn, controls Gog and Magog, two huge mobile robots with multiple arms, powerful gripping tools, and other implements.
