This intriguing and unsettling 47-minute made-for-television movie was produced by Skreba Productions for Channel 4, based on a play written by Kazuo Ishiguro.
Notorious gourmet Manley Kingston (Charles Gray) has spent his life travelling the world, searching for the strangest experiences on offer to the palate.
In London, he plans to carry out the crowning achievement of his career, which will establish him as an equal of Carlo Rossi (Alec Mango), a revered gourmet of earlier days, widely acknowledged as the greatest gourmet of all time.
With detailed instructions he received from colleague Dr Grosvenor (David Rappaport, who – oddly – is dubbed), Kingston plans to capture and devour that food which Rossi tried, never before and never since tasted by a human tongue – the ectoplasmic “meat” of a ghost!
At dusk, dressed as a tramp (with a colander strapped to his back), he sets off into the industrial wastelands of London’s East End to capture his spectral prey (with an oversized butterfly net) – a deceased homeless man who was murdered in 1904 for organ-harvesting.
Although made in 1984, the movie wasn’t aired until Sunday 4 January 1987
