While fighting in Vietnam, Phil (Robert Fuller) promises his dying Marine buddy, Lenny (Alfonso Williams) that he’ll collect his custom motorcycle – a 1947 Harley Davidson Knucklehead chopper affectionately named “Baby” – when he gets back home and deliver it to Lenny’s old friend, Big Red (Tony Russel).
After Phil’s discharge, he meets up with his dead friend’s girlfriend, Sheryl (Sherry Bain), gets the bike, and then runs into trouble from some local bikers – led by Grady (William Bonner) – who don’t like the idea of his having the motorcycle or the girl.
There are some fights and menacing, dirty bikers here, but too much time is spent on long romantic rides and deep philosophical discussions.
The sad ending sees Phil meeting a grizzly end and being buried along with his dead buddy, Lenny.
Fabian makes an uncredited cameo appearance as the cop who stops Phil and Sheryl so he can check out the custom chopper.
