A rock group travel with a film crew and various groupies and hangers-on to desolate Lake Infinity in the Aussie bush to produce a music video with Jim Robinson from Neighbours who is now moonlighting as a director called Grant Evans (Alan Dale).
Unfortunately, the luxurious houseboats they are staying in are at the same location where, many years ago, a group of actors mysteriously died in a fire in which a young child was horrendously burned and disfigured.
Soon, a deranged, charred maniac sneaks aboard the boats and starts slaughtering the crew in a variety of grisly ways.
The acting is beyond terrible and this supporting cast of no-name no-hopers would be outclassed in a secondary school drama club production and some of the over-the-top accents would make Kath and Kim blush in shame. And everyone has a mullet.
Throw in a bad script, bad directing, bad camera work (some home movies have better production values), bad sound, bad lighting, bad music and bad special effects, and Houseboat Horror is not even good in a “so bad it’s good” way.
It’s just bad. In fact, it’s beyond bad – this is absolutely and unequivocally the worst Australian film ever made!
Seriously. Cast your mind back to the worst Australian film you’ve ever seen (there are lots to choose from) and Houseboat Horror will make it seem like Citizen Kane or Gone With The Wind.
This straight-to-video debacle is a complete waste of 82 minutes of your life. Save yourself the time and oxygen that you’ll waste watching it.
The lake location used for filming was Lake Eildon in the Alpine region of Victoria, Australia.
