In an effort to dissuade his pretty teenage daughter JoJo (Tuesday Weld) from marrying her guitar-playing motorcycle-riding boyfriend Kenny (Frankie Avalon), widower Bob Holcomb (Bob Hope) agrees to transfer to Stockholm for his firm, taking JoJo with him.
When they arrive in Sweden, they are met by Bob’s new assistant Erik Carlson (Jeremy Slate), who immediately sweeps JoJo off her feet.
Bob, in turn, falls for Karin (Dina Merrill), a beautiful divorcee.
His delight at JoJo’s new romance rapidly dissolves when he learns that Erik has asked him to join her on a “trial honeymoon”.
In a fit of anger, Bob orders former boyfriend Kenny out to Stockholm but is thwarted when JoJo ignores him.
Meanwhile, Bob asks Karin to marry him, and she suggests they go away together. A tricky problem results with the only levelheaded member of the party, Kenny, left to solve it.
The film never got closer to Sweden than Big Bear Lake and Lake Arrowhead, the two California locations chosen to represent Scandinavia.
