It is 1945. Ilsa (played by former Las Vegas showgirl Dyanne Thorne) is the buxom Nazi medical scientist who has a theory that women have a higher pain tolerance than men.
She tests her theory by subjecting female prisoners at Medical Camp 9 to various types of torture – infecting women with diseases, torturing them with electric shocks, whipping them, boiling them alive and putting maggots in their wounds – to test their tolerance for pain.
Ilsa also conducts private research for her own sadistic pleasure, forcing male prisoners to service her – and castrating them after having sex if they do not satisfy her cravings.
“Once a prisoner has slept with me, he will never sleep with a woman again,” snarls the She Wolf.
Later, Ilsa lays on a banquet to entertain a visiting over-decorated porcine SS general (Wolfgang Roehm). The table’s centrepiece is a nude girl standing on a block of ice, a noose around her neck. The ice melts as the meal wears on, and the girl is strangled, all for the general’s delectation.
After the banquet, Ilsa complies with her superior officer’s request for a little urolagnia-style satisfaction.
There is lots of nudity and graphic violence, as you would expect from a 1970s sexploitation film, although much of the violence is also left to the imagination.
Some of Ilsa was shot on sets at the MGM Culver City backlot which were originally used as ‘Stalag 13’ in the Hogan’s Heroes‘ TV series. Some of the sets were destroyed during filming.
Ilsa is an undisputed classic of the sexploitation/Nazisploitation genre. The Canadian-produced film spawned two official sequels – Ilsa: Harem Keeper of the Oil Sheikhs and Ilsa: Tigress of Siberia.
