A group of people board a plane in London for Paris to experience their first visit to that enchanting city. The film follows their various activities there before they reassemble at Bourget Airport for their return flight back to Blighty.
Alastair Sim is a stuffy Treasury Officer who has a night out with his Russian counterpart at an international economic conference.
Ronald Shiner is a member of the Royal Marines Band, letting his hair down with the ladies of the town. Both he and Sim make the most of their roles. And so does Margaret Rutherford as a would-be artist, although her part gives her few opportunities.
Jimmy Edwards is good as an insular Englishman who spends all his time in an English-style bar.
The most unexpected side to the trip is Claire Bloom. She is charming as an ingenuous tourist who has the time of her life with a wolf (Claude Dauphin) who turns chivalrous.
A dour and kilted Scot off to study window dressing in French shops is pleasantly portrayed by James Copeland.
Also in the passenger list is a good-time girl (Mara Lane) whose rich boyfriend leaves her in the lurch. She is not disappointed, though, when she meets a suave French waiter whose intentions are almost identical.
All the experiences of these weekenders are told not in separate episodes but in bits and bobs with plenty of cross-cutting and hopping about. The laughs come mainly from stock characters and well-worn situations, but the finished product provides plenty of fun and games.
Future Carry On star Kenneth Williams can be seen in a brief (uncredited) early appearance at London Airport.
