Daisy Clover is a 15-year-old who dreams of Hollywood musical stardom. She gets her wish, but discovers the price of fame, as her personal life begins to fall apart.
Gavin Lambert’s novel about the turbulent career of a precocious Hollywood musical star of the 1930s had the potential to be a lot of fun, with its cast of film people and their hangers-on behaving badly.
Unfortunately, in the hands of director Robert Mulligan it treads an uncomfortable line between satire and drama, with disappointing results.
Natalie Wood – by then a movie veteran of more than 20 years – stars as the 15-year-old singing prodigy Daisy and Robert Redford plays her handsome husband, whose sexual orientation makes him less than an ideal spouse.
The two stars reteamed soon after for This Property Is Condemned.
