This feature film was a spin-off from the successful Australian TV series Skippy: The Bush Kangaroo(1966 – 1969).
Matt Hammond (Ed Devereaux), the Head Ranger of Waratah National Park, is approached by abalone divers Peter Yordan (Ron Graham) and Mal Graigoe (Jeff Ashby) for permission to go camping in the park and search for the shellfish.
The ranger’s sons, Mark (Ken James) and Sonny (Garry Pankhurst), and their guest, Clancy Merrick (Liza Goddard), find the divers a diversion, but Flight Ranger Jerry King (Tony Bonner) is suspicious.
The divers turn out to be men of illegal intentions who have found a sunken treasure and have greedily determined to have it for themselves. They even have a mini submarine.
Skippy hops into the plot and gets kangaroonapped by the bad guys.
The story is resolved courtesy of a hot pursuit, some helicopter action, another hot pursuit in which Skippy tries to bury someone in the sand, and on it goes . . .
The film (from Woomera Productions) was distributed in the UK in 1972 by the Children’s Film Foundation (CFF). Released in some markets as Skippy and the Intruders.
