British rock and roller Billy Fury jeopardises the success of his Great Yarmouth summer show and annoys his manager Hymie (Michael Medwin) when he misses rehearsals at the Royalty Theatre to spend more time with his animals, particularly when his racehorse, Anselmo (Fury’s real-life racehorse), runs in the Derby at Epsom.
Fury – in his first big venture into screen musicals – deserved better than this dumb confection, which failed to do for him what similar threadbare flicks did for Cliff Richard.
The film did include, though, 14 new songs, many of which turned into spectacular dance sequences.
Coronation Street fans might enjoy watching Amanda Barrie in her movie heyday, and trivia connoisseurs will note that director Kenneth Hume was married to Shirley Bassey at the time, while fashion fans can admire the 1960s clothes.
If you care, the title was the catchphrase of colourful racetrack tipster Ras Prince Monolulu, a now-forgotten minor celebrity of the period.
