Adam and Eve (1956)

While other films of the time were banned and condemned by the Catholic Church because of nudity, this Mexican Eastmancolor film was given an “A-3” rating because it was “based on the Bible”!

There are lots of real scenes of Earth’s beauty while a narrator quotes the Old Testament, then the film settles into an Eden set for the familiar story, ending with an earthquake.

Eve (one-time Miss Universe French girl Christiane Martel) has long hair (covering vital parts) and Adam (Carlos Baena) wears an easy-to-see flesh-coloured G-string while Adam teaches Eve to walk, eat and swim.

An all-naked premiere was held at a nudist colony, and miniature Bibles were sold at some showings.
