Captain Russ Edwards (Sterling Hayden), the commander of the K-59 Helicopter Element in Korea, dispatches former fighter pilot Lieutenant Pete Stacey (Arthur Franz) to rescue a wounded infantryman in his chopper.
Pete locates the wounded man and rescues him, only to see the rest of the soldier’s patrol being pursued by a Communist tank. He takes the helicopter down again and delays the tank’s advance, withdrawing as the planes which cover helicopter rescue flights sweep down and destroy the tank.
