Doctor at Sea (1955)

One year after the highly successful Doctor In The House, Dirk Bogarde returned as the hapless medic Doctor Simon Sparrow.

Now a qualified doctor, Sparrow takes a post as the ship’s doctor on board the SS Lotus, an all-male cargo ship, in order to escape the boredom of life as a junior general practitioner and unwanted womanly advances from employers’ amorous daughter.

As soon as he sets foot on-board, Simon encounters various eccentric characters, including quick-tempered, authoritarian, whisky-addicted Captain Hogg (James Robertson Justice) and gets involved in many an embarrassing situation.

In Rio he meets Hélène Colbert (Brigitte Bardot), a sexy young French singer, and falls under her spell – watch out for the famous shower scene!

When woman hater Hogg is forced to take on two female characters, Muriel Mallet (Brenda de Banzie), the daughter of the shipping company and her friend, Hélène on his freighter, Simon is delighted.
