    It Happened to Jane (1959)

Small-town lobster dealer Jane Osgood (Doris Day) has a large shipment completely ruined by the neglect of the railroad owned by Harry Foster Malone (Ernie Kovacs). She sues and much to Malone’s chagrin is awarded “triple damages”.

Helped by shy attorney George Denham (Jack Lemmon), she slaps an Attachment on one of Malone’s trains when he appeals against the damages and, with the additional aid of newspaperman Larry Hall (Steve Forrest), she becomes a national hero.

All this is too much for the already apoplectic Malone, and when Jane uses the train to rush her lobsters to market, Malone re-routes it around the country – just to show her who’s running this railroad.

Beautiful photography and a fast and furious finale complement the likeable performances from Jack Lemmon and Doris Day to make this one of the most enjoyable, sunny and uncomplicated comedies of the day.
