    Tommy The Toreador (1959)

This lively and enjoyable lightweight musical comedy stars Tommy Steele as a seaman in Spain who takes the place of a bullfighter.

Young seafarer Tommy Tomkins (Steele) docks in Seville, and whilst returning to his ship he breaks the fall of renowned bullfighter Parilla (Virgilio Teixeira).

When the bullfighter is set up by a bunch of smugglers to take the rap for their crimes, Tomkins is persuaded by crooked bullfight promoters Cadena (Sid James) and Paco (Bernard Cribbins) to stand in for Parilla as the ‘English Matador’.

Tomkins hopes to win a fortune as the stand-in toreador and get back to Blighty with English dancer Amanda (Janet Munro).

Steele, a real-life former merchant seaman, produces an energetic performance interspersed with a nicely varied collection of songs including the Top 10 chart hit Little White Bull.

Support comes from Janet Munro‘s attractive presence and a host of comedy cameos from familiar faces including Eric Sykes, Warren Mitchell and Kenneth Williams.
