World Without End (1956)

Four astronauts – Hugh Marlowe, Rod Taylor, Christopher Dark and Nelson Leigh – are returning from the first mission to survey Mars in 1957 when they enter a time warp and crash on a 26th Century Earth devastated by atomic war.

Our heroes meet with hideous mutant cavemen, giant spiders (pictured at right), love-struck beauties in short dresses (Nancy Gates, Lisa Montell and Shawn Smith), and jealous old geezers in sparkly skullcaps (including Everett Glass and Booth Colman) as they struggle to save humanity and build a new world.

The action climax sets the four astronauts up to be the leaders of a new and better world, with the beast men at bay, affairs of the heart settled, and Hank (Christopher Dark) in charge of the children who are the hope of a rebuilt Earth.

Fans of The Time Machine (1960) and Planet Of The Apes (1968) will love World Without End.
