Creation of the Humanoids, The (1962)

In the near future, the survivors of a nuclear war have created cyborgs to assist in the rebuilding of civilization.

However, as the bald green-skinned androids (derogatorily called “clickers”) become more sophisticated and humanlike, “The Order of Flesh and Blood” – an anti-robot group founded by Kenneth Cragis (Don Megowan) – rises in power, fearful that the androids will overthrow mankind and intent on saving the remnants of humanity.

Meanwhile, a few sympathetic humans have sided with the androids, including Cragis’ sister Esme (Frances McCann), who is actually living “in rapport” with one of them – an R-49 automaton named Pax (David Cross) – and rebel scientist Dr Raven (Don Doolittle), who conspires with the android members of a secret group striving to perfect the androids and make them even more human.

Shot on a shoestring budget, the sets are minimalistic, the story is complicated and and the acting is often pretty bad, but the film works hard to present some strange and imaginative concepts, including a nice surprise ending.
