Crooks Anonymous (1962)

Playing a stripper was hardly the most auspicious start to Julie Christie’s career, but she managed to cover herself in some glory in this amiable if unremarkable comedy from Ken Annakin.

In an amusing but limited idea, the members of a villains’ self-help group put their individual expertise to collective misuse.

Stanley Baxter and Leslie Phillips ran through their usual party tricks, while Wilfrid Hyde White, James Robertson-Justice and Robertson Hare stole scenes at will.

Director Ken Annakin and much of the cast would reunite for the marginally better The Fast Lady in the same year.
