Day of the Triffids, The (1963)

A shower of meteorites produces a glow that blinds 99% of the population of the world.

Enter the Triffids – sinister giant plants from space whose spores have arrived in the meteor shower and who pursue and attack humans.

Two survivors from London, American merchant seaman Bill Masen (Howard Keel) and young Susan (Janina Faye), escape to France and finally to Spain with Christine (Nicole Maurey), another survivor.

They meet a young blind couple who have learnt by radio that unscathed submarines at Alicante will take on board any survivors. They manage to reach the last submarine.

Meanwhile, drunken biologist Tom Goodwin (Kieron Moore) and his wife Karen (Janette Scott) are isolated in an English lighthouse and fighting off the rapidly propagating Triffids.
