Days of Wine and Roses (1962)

Joe Clay (Jack Lemmon) is a very successful Public Relations man. Unfortunately, a big part of his job entails drinking booze – and Joe’s ability to consume alcohol knows no bounds.

When he meets the very pretty Kirsten Arnesen (Lee Remick), she prefers chocolate to alcohol, and although Joe and Kirsten eventually marry, their love can’t prevent the downward spiral brought on by alcohol.

They try desperately to break the habit but continually relapse until only one of them manages to break free.

The film had a lasting effect in reinforcing the growing social acceptance of the ‘Alcoholics Anonymous’ movement.
