From teen exploitation wizard, producer Sam Katzman, The Love-Ins gleefully rips off Timothy Leary, the Haight-Ashbury hippie movement and everything in sight, in the story of straight-laced professor Jonathan Barnett (Richard Todd) who becomes something of a cult figure and guru to a mob of impressionable college kids.
It all ends in tears though, when – after seducing student Patricia Cross (Susan Olivier) – he is killed by her boyfriend, Larry (James MacArthur).
Straining at the leash to be ‘hip’, the film espouses the use of LSD and takes snide digs at such middle-class symbols as the police, university presidents and bourgeois parents.
It also features music by the Chocolate Watch Band, The UFOs, New Age and Donnie Brooks. Watch out for the psychedelic ballet inspired by Alice In Wonderland and a cameo by talk show host Joe Pyne.
