    North to Alaska (1960)

Sam McCord (John  Wayne) and George Pratt (Stewart Granger in his final Hollywood film) strike gold in Alaska circa 1890 and George sends Sam to Seattle to buy mining equipment and bring George’s long-suffering French fiancée back to Alaska.

Sam finds she is already married and returns instead with a French prostitute called “Angel” (Frech supermodel, Capucine) – figuring that one French girl is as good as another.

After trying to get George and Angel together, Sam finally romances Angel himself, who – in the meantime – is busy fighting off the comedic advances of George’s younger brother, Billy (Fabian).

Meanwhile, oily con man Frankie Canon (Ernie Kovacs) is trying to steal the duo’s gold claim.

As it turns out, Frankie and Angel used to be lovers, and now the delighted con artist wants to revive the relationship so that the lovely Frenchwoman can help him steal the mine.

The climax of the film sees the heroes catch up with Canon and start a huge, rollicking, and extremely funny fight in the streets of Nome, with dozens of participants slugging it out in the mud.

North To Alaska is a loud, large, noisy and funny film with John Wayne pulling out all the stops and playing it strictly for laughs.
