A line-up of stars from the Carry On fraternity get together for this vintage comedy about a group of music academy students who try to limit their expenses by sharing living costs and part-time work.
Leslie Phillips stars in this laboured but likeable Gerald Thomas comedy as Mervyn, a penniless music student whose talent for writing pop songs while drunk jeopardises his scholarship at a top classical academy, until gruff tutor and world-famous conductor Sir Benjamin Boyd (James Robertson-Justice) unexpectedly comes to his rescue.
These accomplished funnymen go through their usual paces with aplomb, but the film belongs to the delightful Esma Cannon as a deaf landlady, Kenneth Williams as a toffee-nosed swot with designs on a composing prize and Sid James as the disreputable music publisher behind Mervyn’s predicament.
