Scarlet Blade, The (1963)

During the English Civil War in 1648, King Charles I is captured by Roundhead forces led by the tyrant Colonel Judd (Lionel Jeffries) and his right-hand man Captain Sylvester (Oliver Reed).

A band of Royalists – led by Edward Beverley (Jack Hedley), whose exploits earn him the title of ‘The Scarlet Blade’ – plot to rescue the King and many others of their side.

They are helped by Clare Judd (June Thorburn), daughter of the Ironside colonel in possession of Beverley Manor, who secretly helps them in defiance of her father.

Edward and Clare fall in love but Sylvester, who is also in love with Clare, threatens to betray their cause.

Edward is captured but eventually manages to escape with Clare.

Released as The Crimson Blade in some markets.
