Headstrong college girl heiress Joan Denton (Jeanne Rainer) does a bit of slumming, becomes pregnant and goes berserk in a vain attempt to destroy her unborn child. The by-play, involving a shyster lawyer and a sadistic cop, is as lurid as the main plot.
Joan, the motherless daughter of Dr Earl Denton (Charles G. Martin), the benevolent owner of a small town in Florida (Dentonville), secretly mixes with working-class teenagers. Laundry mechanic Eddie Mercer (Ted Marshall), an illegitimate orphan, attracts Joan, and later she discovers she’s pregnant.
She wants an (illegal) abortion, but Eddie strongly disapproves. Eventually, Joan tells her father, but Denton’s lawyer Sam Ingram (Robert J. Cannon), gets to hear and takes matters into his own hands, blackmailing Denton into giving him a cut of the Denton estate.
Meanwhile, Eddie is jailed and beaten up by the local police chief (Stephen Wesley), who is also an illegitimate orphan.
Through Vicky Smith (Sue Ellis), a tarnished lady, Eddie secures legal aid but impatiently breaks out of prison. Joan follows him to the children’s home where he grew up and then through a swamp where she shoots him dead.
Despite its emphasis on sex and violence, there is some genuine human interest in the dilemma of the doting doctor father.
