This made-for-TV movie was apparently intended to be either the first of a neo-Bondian clutch of flicks or the pilot for a TV series. Either way, it is simply a total disaster.
Written with banality by Michael Fisher and directed with travelogue tedium by Leslie Martinson, it offers Richard Basehart as the head of E-Force, a worldwide environmental protection agency headquartered in Australia with computers and pretty girls.
Meanwhile, Joseph Furst, an evil Nazi scientist living incognito in Hong Kong, is off to peddle poison gas to terrorists.
He leaves behind some gas canisters in a downtown sewer, along with a digital clock to warn us that if he’s double-crossed, it will explode in 85 hours and wipe out Hong Kong.
Instead, he’s killed in a small plane crash when the samples he’s taking to the terrorists leak and some surrounding natives are wiped out. Enter Basehart to trace the gas and wind up in Hong Kong dealing with Leslie Nielsen, as a gangster who spends his time caressing his Oriental henchwoman.
Susan Strasberg plays Furst’s loony daughter, who spends her time with platitudes and piano playing.
