    Equinox (1970)

Four teenagers – David (Edward Connell), Susan (Barbara Hewitt), Jim (Frank Bonner) and Vicki (Robin Christopher) – are trekking through a national park, attempting to find their university professor, Dr Waterman (Fritz Leiber), at his remote cabin in the woods.

They arrive to find the cabin destroyed and are given a leather-bound book on the occult purported to be almost as old as the Dead Sea Scrolls – albeit it looks like something out of Brentano’s.

Poring through it while munching on their picnic lunch, they unwittingly open a real Pandora’s box of horrors.

Soon they’re ditching their salami on rye and scampering in all directions as they are set upon by a latter-day albino version of King Kong, stuntman-sized vampires with blood-red wings, and a shape-shifting forest ranger (Jack Woods, who also wrote the screenplay and directed the film) who turns into Satan at the sight of youth on the lam.

Originally made in 18967, Equinox is basically a 70-minute zero-budget student film.
