Piranha (1978)

Swimming in on the tail of Jaws, but with teeth firmly in cheek, this is both an enjoyable story in its own right and an amusing take-off on fishy disaster stories.

Two Texan teenagers (Roger Richman and Janie Squire) find shelter for the night in an abandoned military research centre and go for a swim in the pool.

They are attacked by a mutant strain of piranha fish capable of living in both fresh and seawater of any temperature and created as a secret weapon against the North Vietnamese.

Meanwhile, Maggie McKeown (Heather Menzies) arrives in the vicinity, looking for two missing persons

Best line: “But Sir, they’re eating the guests”.
