    Tomorrow Never Comes (1977)

Peter Collinson (The Italian Job) directs this tense, violent hostage drama starring Oliver Reed as negotiator Jim Wilson who is trying to barter the release of Janie (Susan George) from her deranged partner, Frank (Stephen McHattie).

Donald Pleasence has the most fun as a French-Canadian accented doctor, but Raymond Burr appears late on with clockwork toys for everyone, the reason for which is obscure.

The largely British cast and crew upended to Quebec to shoot this film at the height of the Canadian tax-shelter boom of the 1970s, a climate that helped nurture the development of Canadian talents such as David Cronenberg and Ivan Reitman.
